We spent the weekend at a farmhouse within the West Virginia Mountains!
Hey-yo!! We’re again from our weekend within the West Virginia mountains with a big group of pals!
Our group spanned 3 generations
Our group spanned three generations ages 2 to 70-something. The nucleus of the group was the Riedesel household, who’s pals with the homeowners of a historic farmhouse bought over half a century in the past for his or her household of 13 youngsters to take pleasure in. Our pals have been going to the farm for over 40 years! Thomas visited as a younger lad along with his mother and father and as a younger grownup, and he was excited for Birch, Mazen and I to get the complete farm expertise.
We additionally had two animal pals be a part of us
Candy Penny the canine
And Quill, the hedgehog!!!
The farmhouse
Life is previous there, older than the bushes
The farmhouse is large (it’s sort of like 2 homes linked by a porch). There are 22 (!) bedrooms and solely 3 bogs in the home and loads of area for a big group.
The home is frozen in time in probably the most charming means. It jogged my memory a lot of the home I grew up in. From the field followers within the window (there isn’t any AC!) to the vintage furnishings to the massive porches with a dozen rocking chairs, we undoubtedly had that “misplaced in time” really feel. There’s additionally no web and cell service is spotty at greatest, so unplugging was straightforward to do.
My quilt and sheets from residence on our 4 poster mattress!
I used to be most anxious about sleeping with out air con, however the field followers labored their magic and I wasn’t scorching in any respect. (Flashbacks to rising up once we didn’t have AC in our bedrooms till I used to be in center college!!) Birch slept in a crib in our room (fortunately he slept all night time!) and Mazen was up in a bunk room along with his buddies.
The view
Bucolic cornfields and West Virginia mountains.
The Pond
Behind the home there may be an ice chilly spring-fed pond. The boys took a swim to the dock to discover a good snake ready there for them! For sure I didn’t put one toe within the pond.
However others the place not afraid of what was beneath the floor!
The Boy Pack
Mazen particularly had an absolute blast operating round with this pack of boys. The fished, they sailed down the slip n slide, they tubed the river, and performed “boat” within the pond.
Mazen did get snuggle time along with his little buddy too <3
Friday BBQ Dinner
How do you feed 40 individuals? In bulk!! Our buddy Chase was head chef and ready BBQ, mac and cheese, and coleslaw for the group. Plus we had about 10 coolers filled with drinks!
Cupcakes for dessert
Pancakes For Breakfast

River Time
On Saturday after breakfast we drove a couple of mile away to a river to do some “swimming” aka wading. The water was crystal clear! We noticed crayfish, minnows, and poison ivy – fortunately no snakes!
The massive boys determined to tube the best way residence (with two supervising dads) and had a grand previous time. I took Birch residence for a nap and did slightly snoozing myself!
Slip n Slide
We made an epic slip n slide with an enormous roll of plastic that offered hours of leisure for the children!

On Saturday night time we had a fancy dress social gathering and had been tasked to put on an animal costume that began with the identical letter as our first identify!
There aren’t too many animals that begin with Okay, and Kyle and I had been each Koalas! Nicely, technically I used to be a PINAkoala!
Birch the Butterfly didn’t like sporting his costume very a lot. Mazen the (water) Moccasin received his morphsuit on Amazon! It was SCARY!
And Tommy the Tiger was all enthusiasm!

And burgers and canines, corn on the cob, and freshly made peach cobbler for dessert.
